Teaching
I am currently an assistant professor of Urban Studies at the Faculty of Architecture of TU Delft, where I teach about social science, programming and academic writing. Previously, I have taught courses on methodology, urban studies and modelling. I see teaching and learning at their best when they are:
- Open: open-source software, open-registration, open to innovations
- Evolutive: Evolutive content and Evolutive teaching roles
- Collaborative: Collaborative design, and Collaborative learning
Teaching positions
On-going education at TU Delft
Created in 2022, this 2-day intensive course is now part of TUD Library’s annual training offer. It aims at enhancing Open Science practices for reproducible, automated and scalable research with the R programming language. During the course, participants learn about the basic concepts, skills and tools for working efficient with geospatial data. The content of the workshop is available under a CC BY 4.0 license: (Forgaci et al., n.d.).
- Social Science Approach to Urbanism Seminar series
Created in 2021, this seminar series is available for the student of the Master Urbanism at the Faculty of Architecture. It guides urbanists and designers in identifying and critically discussing social science theories, concepts and methods relevant to their studies, as well as to operationalising them in their graduation thesis.
- Academic Writing (BK2AC1)
I also take part in this course on academic writing as a tutor for 1st year architecture students who learn how to review the academic literature and write scientific papers.
- The Rbanism community
As a co-founder and core member of this community, I aim to spread knowledge about programming and the R language for urbanism studies, foster interactions and information-sharing among students, teachers and researchers.
Previous Teaching
Summer schools
In 2023, Julie Vallée and I trained around 20 students on how to perform geographical multilevel modelling with R at the Quantille summer school.
In 2018, Paul Chapron and I trained around 40 students on how to model systems dynamics and urban segregation with R at the LabEx DynamiTe Summer school on massive spatial data.
BSc Engineering, University of Shanghai
In 2019, I taught a 2-week course on Urban models and agent-based simulations to 300 thrid-year students, including lectures and practicals.
BSc Geography, University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne
Between 2012 and 2014, I taught courses on urban geography, data maning, map-making and statistics to bachelor students of all levels.
